The collection contains correspondence, news releases, and campaign literature re: the organization of the Libertarian Party, its first national convention, and John Hosper's candidacies for United States president in 1972 and California governor in 1974. Of interest are materials from the period prior to the first national convention in 1972, particularly from a predecessor Los Angeles group, the Libertarian Alternative; Hosper's draft of the party's statement of principles; and a 1974 "Who's Who" giving biographical profiles of early party leaders.
